Merchant Shipping Act as reported

in my

Despatch N. 31 of the 11 November last, I should recommend

that the Salary be raised to £700.

32. A small increase in the Salaries of three of the Clerks in the Colonial Secretary's Office is recommended. The Lot Clerks may be abolished, whereby a saving of £240 can be effected.

33. The 2nd Clerk in the Treasurer's Establishment. Treasurer's Office who receives £240 might also be abolished and an increase of £120 made in the Salaries of the remaining two officers - £100 to the Cashier, and £20 to the Accountant.

34. The Surveyor General's Establishment. The first clerk in the Surveyor General's Office at present receives only £300. This is an important office, and considerably underpaid. The present incumbent being a meritorious public Servant of 15 years standing, I recommend that he receive £400 per annum. An increase of £60 should also be given to the 2nd Clerk, which will raise his Salary to £300.

35. The Chief Magistrate's Establishment. The Assistant Magistrate should, considering the importance and responsibility of his duties, be assigned a salary of £700 - I have also recommended.
